Clothing
The cold weather has arrived. Please make sure that your child has a weather appropriate clothing to wear outside on the playground. You are welcome to send in a pair of snowpants and boots to keep here at school throughout the winter months. The children will try their best to be responsible for their belongings but we have found that this is the time of year when clothing tends to go missing. Please make sure to label winter coats, gloves, hats and boots.
We will continue to have outdoor recess throughout the winter. We will only stay inside when it is raining or when the wind chill is below 20 degrees.

Veterans Day
Veterans Day Celebration
Just a reminder that tomorrow Brown's celebrating our Veterns by having a small school celebration in the morning. It will start at 8:30am and last about an hour. If you could remember, please have your child dress in red, white, and/or blue to help show our support and to celebrate what our Veterans have done for us.

Empire State Youth Orchestra
We went on a really hilarious field trip. It was about a funny composer who was called Peter.
He was a crybaby, he wanted the orchestra to play his symphony.
It was called the fourth symphony.
He showed it to us, but the sheet just said "4 degrees Fahrenheit." - Elise

Rocks and Minerals
We are learning about rocks and minerals. Last week we went on a rock hunt and collected rocks from the Brown School property. I have asked the kids to bring in a rock from home. It can be a rock that they find in the yard or a special rock that you keep in the house. We will be comparing the rocks based on their size, texture and color.

Flat Stanley
Dear Parents,
As you are aware, we have been learning about United States geography. As we continue on with this theme, we will be taking part in
the Flat Stanley Project. Flat Stanley is a character from a chapter book
we have been reading who was squished by a bulletin board and became flat.
He then traveled the world by mail, plane and train on great adventures.
After reading this book, I thought it would be fun to take part in the Flat
Stanley Project. I have communicated with schools and teachers throughout
the United States and have arranged to exchange flat travelers. The
children have created their own flat characters to send
out (which will be done from school). Each child will also have the
opportunity to host a flat traveler from another state (and later on in the
year we will reach out to other countries). When your child comes home with
a flat traveler, they will be asked to write in a journal and document their
adventures. Many schools are looking to learn about our state as well, so
please be sure to add details about our geography, weather, things we do
here, etc. The children should be documenting their visit with the flat
traveler. We ask that if you go any where special, like a museum, play,
work, or anywhere fun and exciting, that your child bring their flat
traveler and take a picture to send back. Your child can also draw a
picture. Also, if there are any fun (but small) souvenirs, your child would
like to include to send back with their flat traveler, it is greatly
appreciated. Some items could be pins, pictures, postcards, fliers or
brochures of places you went with your flat traveler, etc. Each child will
host a visitor for one week, complete a journal entry or two, and then
return it to school so that we can mail it back.
This is a great opportunity for the children to not only learn about
geography but it is also a literacy and community building activity. If you
have any questions at any time, please email me. I am looking forward to
this great experience!
Thanks,
Miss Keil

Alvin Ho
We are reading Alvin Ho. In it there is a boy named Alvin Ho. He is afraid of school. He acts like he is allergic to girls, but he isn't. It is a really good book. - Victoria (class blogger)
